Do You Know the Risks of Using Your Insurance Benefits for Psychotherapy? ↓Yesterday, I posted a short video about using your medical insurance benefits for therapy. More specifically, why insurance companies are screwing you over when you use your mental health benefits. This isn't a scare tactic...it's just the truth about insurance and therapy! The reality of the situation is that people lose a lot of the great advantages of therapy when they use their insurance. For instance, confidentiality is limited when you use your insurance and the insurance company even gets to dictate whether you need treatment or not...what the fuck is that about? Sure, therapy is almost always cheaper with insurance, but your copay is still often around $80 per visit (a far cry from the $15 doctor visit you're used to). Maybe it's worth it to go every other week and pay the full rate (often between $125 - $165). Besides, you'll likely be able to get an appointment much quicker by avoiding massive waitlists that typically come with insurance based providers. There's a lot to the pros and cons (mostly cons) of using your insurance benefits for therapy. At the end of the day, I want you to get the help you need and if the only way for that to happen is for you to use your insurance...I get it. Let's Talk About It!Have questions about insurance benefits and therapy? Looking for more information about why insurance companies suck for therapy? Reach out and let's talk about it! |

Option 1: Continue therapy with them but let them know during your next session that...
No Bullshit from Dr. Adam March 1st Your Therapist Should NEVER Approach You First in The Wild ↓ Hi Reader, There are a lot (and I mean a lot) of unethical therapists out there. In this weeks video, I talked about one of the most common ways therapists are unethical. Take a look here. Therapists are professional secret keepers. That includes that you're in therapy! If your therapist ever approaches you in the wild (aka outside of the therapy office) without your consent, they just violated...
No Bullshit from Dr. Adam February 22nd Sometimes, Maintaining a Relationship With A Family Member Isn't Always Best ↓ Reader, My most recent video talked about a pretty sensitive topic - that sometimes it's okay to end a relationship with a parent or family member. While this can be a healthy and necessary step for some, it should never be taken lightly. Family relationships can be complicated, and while it's not appropriate for many (most), there are some individuals who need to end a...
